About us and why you should join

GUSWPC are one of the biggest and most friendly sporting clubs on campus, excelling in both competitive swimming and waterpolo while having a very active social side. No matter how much experience you have in either swimming or water polo we are always on the hunt for new members. It’s a great chance to build up fitness and stamina but more importantly meet a bunch of really great people and the chance to compete around the UK, with a tour during the summer.

So whether you want a kick start to meet some new friends, just keep fit, or train to compete in top events we are the club for you.
(If you are a member of the club there is no pressure to swim or play waterpolo competitively).

Joining in freshers week…

Come along to all our events in freshers week and refreshers week to find out about us and get a taster for who we are. All events in freshers week are free. Make sure you drop by our sports fair stall you can signup for freshers information and ask any questions you may have. You can also signup for the freshers information by using simple form in the sidebar. If you have any questions please contact us.

Joining in term time…

We always welcome new members, so whether your just studying at Glasgow for a short time or you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t heard about us yet, we would love to see you in the pool.  To join you must first be a member of the University’s Sport and Recreation service (the gym). Just pop along to any one of our sessions, and let the coaches know if you need any help deciding where to swim! Alternatively, send us an email and we’ll happily give you all the information you’ll need!

Membership cost, training and competitions

The cost of membership for the entire academic season is £35 for early birds. We consider this to be excellent value for money as for that you get up to 10 hours of coached swimming, 3 of coached Waterpolo, as well as all the social events we hold. You are welcome to come to as many of as few sessions as you want or are able to. Being a member requires NO commitment to swim or play competitively. If you just want to train to keep fit or socialise or both that’s cool but if you have swum competitively before or would like to start please let one of the captain’s know! We compete in a number of team and individual events so there is an opportunity for everyone, whatever your ability. We hold optional, regular time-trials during training for you to gauge your ability.
